Yerba Mate:
We have videos of how to prepare mate! To watch the videos - click the icons below. French Press: Place yerba mate in the French press. Add hot water and steep for 3-10 minutes. We recommend using 1-2 tbsp of loose mate per cup. First, moisten the mate with cool water to protect the nutrients and flavor, then ADD HOT (NOT BOILING) WATER. Coffee Maker: Place yerba mate in filter basket, then brew. We recommend using 1-2 tbsp of loose mate per cup. First, moisten the mate with cool water to protect the nutrients and flavor, then run the machine as usual. Espresso Maker: Yerba mate brews well in most espresso makers. Place 1-2 tbsp of loose mate in a double espresso portafilter. Pull a long shot for a total of 4 oz. Great for making mate lattés. Mate Latte Recipe: Brew an 8 oz. cup of Guayakí Yerba Mate. Add sweetener (sugar, honey, or maple syrup) to taste and 4 oz. of steamed milk of choice. Top off with milk foam. Makes a 12 oz. latté. Mate Gourd: Yerba mate is traditionally prepared in a gourd and shared among a circle of friends. Welcome the moments of community born of your own mate circle.
Very good tea...smooth with a hint of smoke flavor, but not much of it.

Such a smooth, earthy flavor with a light, smokey after taste on your tongue... I love it! Pass it around!

I love this yerba mate. Its one of the best i've tried it has a nice mellow flavor but is still complex I think this one is best out of the gourd. Even when I space out and let it sit in the gourd a little too long and it becomes very strong it is still very good, and dose not become overwhelmingly bitter like some of them do. great job guayaki you guys are the best!!!!

at first this was not as good as what i had been drinking, a blend a friend of mine got for me, which was more like the san mateo. but after getting used to the more robust flavor, and learning what things i could mix in and those i could not, i truly now enjoy this style of yerba. i drink barbacua cold, kinda of like iced tea, try mixing in some cold fresh juice with it to add some sweetness.

As soon as you open the bag you notice a more light and springy aroma of mate. It really tastes a bit heavy with a smoked note, but goes down just as well. It's great for a mid-day cup!

I decided to try the Barbacua blend just to have a little variety- I've been drinking the loose leaf traditional mate for years. I was pleasantly surprised. I like the smokey overtones that come out and it is overall a nice smooth blend. The one thing I don't particularly like is that there is a slight sour note to the drink. Nevertheless, I will gladly get it again...
