Yerba Mate:
The Gaucho Blend (for a drip coffee maker) is potent and robust, with toasted nutty earthy tones, and a smooth malty finish. Gaucho's Fuerte Mate Blend brews a potent cup - "Fuerte" means "strong" in Spanish. Brews just like espresso in a drip coffee maker. It has a slightly larger grind than espresso. How is it made? Our Gaucho's Fuerte Mate Blend is 100% powdered yerba mate that is formed into granules that brews a rich, strong cup of mate in a coffee maker. Simply brew in a drip coffee maker using 2-4 teaspoons of Gaucho Fuerte Blend per cup of water. How much does it make? One pound will make 30 - 96 cups of Gaucho's Fuerte Mate Blend depending on strength - see brewing notes below. (96 teaspoons per pound 'or' 32 tablespoons per pound) How to Brew We recommend using 2-4 teaspoons of Gaucho’s Fuerte Mate blend per cup. Place granules in your drip coffee maker, then brew. You can add your favorite sweetener or creamer to your brewed cup according to your taste. Add the depleted brewed granules to your garden compost. Light brew - 2 teaspoons per 8 oz. of water Medium brew - 3 teaspoons per 8 oz. of water Bold brew - 4 tablespoon per 8 oz. of water NOTE: (More than a tablespoon gives a darker, but more bitter taste.)
We have videos of how to prepare mate! To watch the videos - click the icons below. French Press: Place yerba mate in the French press. Add hot water and steep for 3-10 minutes. We recommend using 1-2 tbsp of loose mate per cup. First, moisten the mate with cool water to protect the nutrients and flavor, then ADD HOT (NOT BOILING) WATER. Coffee Maker: Place yerba mate in filter basket, then brew. We recommend using 1-2 tbsp of loose mate per cup. First, moisten the mate with cool water to protect the nutrients and flavor, then run the machine as usual. Espresso Maker: Yerba mate brews well in most espresso makers. Place 1-2 tbsp of loose mate in a double espresso portafilter. Pull a long shot for a total of 4 oz. Great for making mate lattés. Mate Latte Recipe: Brew an 8 oz. cup of Guayakí Yerba Mate. Add sweetener (sugar, honey, or maple syrup) to taste and 4 oz. of steamed milk of choice. Top off with milk foam. Makes a 12 oz. latté. Mate Gourd: Yerba mate is traditionally prepared in a gourd and shared among a circle of friends. Welcome the moments of community born of your own mate circle.
I normally drink Rosamonte, Taraguy, and Cruz de Malta. Actually I've exclusively drank those brands since I started drinking mate daily about 2 years ago. I saw your sample pack and thought "hey, why not?" I ALWAYS brew my mate using a drip coffee maker and would end up wasting a lot of leaf material (can't re-brew while I'm off at work). I used less than half Gaucho Fuerte of what I used with the other brands and got a stronger, much tastier mate. I had no idea mate had flavors this complex . . . I'm so used to the ones that taste like hay! Will definitely order from here from now on!

The Gaucho blend was hit with my wife, Heather. She added frothed Vanilla Almond milk, a teaspoon of organic hazelnut syrup with a little agave and sprinkled cinnamon on it. I really, really like the San Mateo blend and may switch to that from the traditional once I run out of my 5 pound bag...or, I may not. But, I do love the smoother taste and even on the first serving, the San Mateo was not too over powering. Heather's going to bring her tea to work to share with her co-workers. Thanks, Paul

I had finally decided to free up some counter space by removing my coffee maker when I switched from my morning drip coffee to drinking Yerba Mate in tea bag form. Then I discovered Gaucho's Fuerte Mate in "coffee-style grind" for drip coffee makers. I love the convenience of being able to "flip the swich" and brew hot mate in the morning and then have the remainder to drink over ice in the afternoon. Needless to say, my counter is still cluttered, but because of the great feeling I get from drinking my mate, it doesn't bother me any longer. Keep up the good work!

I love this mate... it brews great in a coffee maker and is very tasty with raw honey or agave nectar. My father who is an avid "black" coffee drinker, likes it alot, too, which pleases me given the endless amount of health benefits it contains. Thanks, Guayaki for making so easy to get the mate online! Great, healthy, tasty products!!!

I love this stuff. My body seems to love it too! I found it as a replacement for coffee. My body actually feels HYDRATED when I drink it (as opposed to coffee making it feel dehydrated). Thanks so much Guayaki!!

I tried this for the first time since giving up coffee due to allergies. It works great in my drip coffee maker. Now I can drink tea all day. I usually make two pots a day. How handy is this!

Brewed the Fuerte Mate in my coffee maker according to the 'light brew' measurements. Wow, it is strong. Tried it with cinnamon, again with sugar, and neither took the edge off. Last cup I poured 1/3 of regular soy milk and it came out like a delicious latte. Will try it again later with a stronger brew and vanilla soy milk. This is a good blend taste-wise and a nice alternative to coffee, but I'm sticking with the San Mateo blend.
